Geocaching for ICE CREAM

If you haven't gone geocaching yet, here is a good reason to start!

But first, a few answers to your questions.

Geocaching is pretty much treasure hunting with a GPS enabled device. Most of us can use our smart phones, so we don't need to own a GPS device. You will need a geocaching membership, click here for that. You will also need to download the geocaching app if you plan on using your phone. The app logo looks like this:

The best website that has all the information you need to get started is www.geocaching.com/guide. The following video is found on this website, but you can have a look right here.

There are a few rules to geocaching. First, sign the logbook. People want to know you found it. Second, log into www.geocaching.com and record your victory. Third, if you take a treasure in the cache, leave something in the cache that is equal or greater value. 

We want to share the geocaching adventure with you and give you another reason to start geocaching or go on another geocaching treasure hunt if you are already a cacher. And that reason is ice cream! Heath has left Dairy Keen FREE ice cream coupons in some of the local geocaches in Midway. The weather is warm, perfect for treasure hunting, and summer means ice cream, courtesy of Heath.

Using the www.geocaching.com website, there are 515 geocaches in Midway and 88 in Heber City, so you have plenty of treasure hunting to do!

A tangy spin off of a favorite summer treat

Take advantage of the season and your love of all things vinegar with this delicious cucumber recipe.

Slice up about 6 cups of cucumbers and 1/2 of a red onion and place in a bowl.  Sprinkle 1 tbsp of salt over the top. Let it all sit for about 2 hours then drain off the liquid. In another smaller bowl mix 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of cider vinegar. Pour the sugar/vinegar over the cucumbers and onions. Let them sit in the refrigerator for about 12 hours for the full experience, but if you can't wait, its understandable.

This recipe is a bit different from the usual cucumbers in vinegar and its a delicious! For all you Heber Valley folks, cucumbers are 3 for $1 at Rancho Market this week!

Famous visitors and it isn't even Sundance time!

Of all the famous folks that come to visit our valley, some of the coolest ones are coming this summer. Princess Leia will be in town this month as well as that old villian, Captain Hook. 

Miss Sally will be hosting Princess Leia at Southfield Park this Wednesday, June 14th at 10:00 am for the Wasatch County Library READING WITH THE STARS storytime program.

Next week, Wednesday the 21st, Captain Hook will be visiting Hamlet Park in Midway at 10:00.

Storytime in the park is geared for the entire family so bring a blanket, a picnic, and enjoy.
