It's not too late to plant veggies this year.

Don't think that just because it's not springtime anymore that you've missed out on a vegetable gardening experience.  So maybe you didn't have a gardening spot ready in May to bury a few seeds in the soil.  It's okay.  It's not too late.  You can still plant quite a few vegetable varieties that thrive and prefer growing now.

This chart from The Urban Farmer shows the varieties of veggies that will still be happy to grow for you this season.

Beets, broccoli, carrots, kale, lettuces, and spinach can still be planted from seed and you'll still get a harvest this year.  There is nothing like that home grown vegetable taste.  Plus your kids will think its great to participate in the gardening scene.

Its time to try THE BEST ever zucchini bread

If you have a vegetable garden, August means you might have a little bit of zucchini taking up counter top space in your kitchen.  Well, here is THE BEST ever zucchini bread recipe.  Its an old recipe which means you might be appalled at 1 cup of oil, but believe me, its worth it.

Buttons' Zucchini Bread
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
3 eggs
1 cup of oil (3/4 cup is sufficient if you are appalled)
3 tsp vanilla
2 cups grated or chopped zucchini
3 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp baking powder
3 tsp cinnamon

Cream sugars, eggs, and oil in a large bowl.  Add in the vanilla and zucchini.  Mix well.  Add the dry ingredients and mix well.
Pour into two greased and floured bread pans.  Bake for an hour at 325 degrees.  A little sprinkle of sugar on the tops of the loaves before you bake them is super delicious.

Truly, its the best zucchini bread.  Give it a whirl, even if you don't have a vegetable garden.  Go grab some zucchini at the market, its probably on sale right now.
